Back to normal, whatever that is

I’m back at work today. I have to say, I was a little nervous about coming back – after a week of doing nothing at all and being basically pampered, it’s sorta hard to get back into the swing of things. But I’m here, and so far, so good, except for some network flakiness that has been the status quo for a month now (we’re working on it!)

I got my stitches out yesterday and an update on how the surgery went. I found out that the parathyroids that he removed may not have been a problem. When he took them out, he thought they looked a little enlarged, but the guy that did the biopsy thought they looked normal. He didn’t look at the remaining parathyroid on the right side, so it may still be a problem. My levels at this point are normal, so all we can do is wait and watch.

There is some good news though. The analysis they did on my thyroid showed that I had Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis, which I had on the other half as well, when they removed it last time. They also found a tiny cancer on it, which he said was common with Hashimoto’s – it was 0.7 millimeters. It was a little difficult to hear that word, but it’s nothing at all to worry about. They removed all of it with my thyroid. It’s good that they caught it in time.

So now I go back to the endocrinologist in about a month to get my levels checked again, and just keep on eye on them from there. I wish the parathyroids had proven to be a little more conclusive, but it is what it is. Right now, I have a bunch of white tape on the scar which will come off in a week – it looks pretty nasty, but not as bad as the stitches did.

I want to thank everyone for their support, well wishes, and general good juju – it all helps. And a very special thank you to Bob & Ana for all the movies. I think I found all sorts of hidden meanings in Finding Nemo this time! Of course that could have been the painkillers…

  1. Righteous! As the Turtle would say.

Glad to help a freind out, and glad you are doing ok.
Can you blow smoke rings out of your neck like that lady in Beetlegeuse?

  2. Can you talk again? I hated to call and hurt your throat. Lemme know. Glad you’re back to work and that the news is much better than anticipated. Freya says, “Roo!” You can decide what that means. 🙂
